The very first people who should truly understand the organisation’s sustainability goals are its internal stakeholders. Everyone in the organisation should be on board with these goals.
Sustainability concepts shouldn’t just be understood by the sustainability team. Leadership buy-in is absolutely crucial, but so is getting the rest of the team involved. Everyone should feel a sense of ownership.
For employees to be fully on board, they need to be properly trained. This doesn’t have to involve a formal classroom-style training. There can be an internal learning system with bite-sized informational modules that explain key sustainability concepts, and most importantly, show how each employee can apply them in their specific role. These learning materials should be designed to be highly engaging and easy to consume in very few minutes.
The easiest way to drive sustainability in society is by embedding it into our everyday conversations. This can only be achieved if we possess the necessary knowledge. Empowering your employees with sustainability knowledge can make a huge difference.
Together, we could design a digital knowledge hub with interactive materials. This would allow employees to learn about sustainability concepts in their own time, using short videos, quizzes, and case studies tailored to their roles. This hub could even be integrated into the onboarding process, so new hires are equipped with sustainability knowledge from day one.
